Koottu Curry- A side dish made with Chickpea and Coconut
Now to season, boil oil in a seasoning pan, add mustard seeds.Let it crack.Add red chillies and curry leaves.Now add this to the curry along with the fried grated coconut.
In the Southern States of India,every Hindu Occasion is accompanied by a vegetarian feast popularly known as 'Sadhya'.It is rice served with 18 or more side dishes.Koottu Curry is one among this.
Ingredients-
Chick pea : 2 cups(soaked overnight)
Red Chilly Powder-1 teaspoon (or moreif u need it spicier)
Red Chilly Powder-1 teaspoon (or moreif u need it spicier)
Turmeric powder-1/2 a teaspoon
Salt as required
Yam cubed-1 cup
Yam cubed-1 cup
Fresh Coconut grated-3/4 cup
Seasoning
Coconut Oil-1 tbsp
Curry leaves-2 pods
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Dried Red Chillies- 2 no.
Fried grated coconut-1/4 cup(dry fried)
Method
Pressure cook the first four ingredients with necessary water.One whistle with full flame and 2 whistles in sim is enough for me.Now add the yam pieces and cook.Meanwhile grind fresh coconut with cumin seeds and add to the prepared chick pea.Cook until the curry becomes thick.It becomes thicker when it cools down.So do take care that it doesnt get too dry a dish.
